It was April 2019, and I had just finished presenting graduate work that I had spent countless hours preparing for.
I walked into the bathroom afterward, took off the scarf wrapped around my neck, and saw what I already knew would be there again...hives covering my skin from the anxiety of being seen.
And I remember standing there thinking: "How can I be this intelligent, this capable, this passionate about my work… yet my body completely freaks out every time all eyes are on me?"
At the time, I was overthinking every word, rushing when I spoke, taking beta blockers to get through presentations, and secretly questioning myself constantly.
What changed everything was realizing that communication is not just about becoming more articulate. I had spent years separating my inner world from my professional one, treating yoga, meditation, nervous system work, and spirituality like they had nothing to do with leadership, visibility, or speaking.
But the breakthrough happened when I finally connected them.
Because you cannot regulate in the same moment that requires it. You build safety before the moment. You practice visibility before all eyes are on you.
That realization changed my life.
I got off the beta blockers, was ejected from a 9 year marriage, rebuilt my life, and eventually founded Vocal Honey™, a movement devoted to helping women become fully expressed in their voice, visibility, leadership, and life.
